About Us

Hi !

This is Leon and Mari Louw from longdistancerelationshipsecrets.com

I (Leon) did most of the writing, but it’s definitely not my book, it’s ours. It wouldn’t have been possible at all without Mari’s valuable input. Therefore, I can truly say that we are the authors of Long Distance Relationship Secrets. It is the most effective hands-on practical book available on the internet – or anywhere else for that matter – dealing with the day to day struggles of a long distance relationship.

Leon and MariThe two of us met in April of 2004 on a university hiking trip. I was in my final year, and she was in her first year. We started dating on the 1st of May 2004, and my studies ended in November of the same year. By February 2005 I started working for a large mining firm, far away from Mari, and so our own long distance relationship began.

It lasted for a full two year until we got married on the 16th of December 2006. After that it continued for another full year before we were finally together. That put the long distance part of our relationship at a total of 3 years.

We had lots of support, but also lots of bad advice and discouragement during those 3 years. I was toying with the idea of creating a product to help others for quite a while, and then...

...we both had great jobs at the same company and bought a very nice house. We thought this was going to be our happily ever after. I mean, what more could we ask for? We had comfortable high paying jobs and a great house and we could see each other all the time.
Untill that fatefull morning, when we were called into the boardroom full of very serious looking people. Fate decided to play us for a bit of irony. I was still working on Long Distance Relationship Secrets when we were suddenly forced to become a long distance couple again. We were both retrenched due to the economic downturn and I had no alternative than to take a contracting work in the Democratic Republic of Congo - almost 5000km (~3000 miles) away from home.

I had to work 71 days on, with a 21 day break. That's a full ten weeks, or almost two and a half months that we don't see each other at all. But even that didn't last. I got retrenched again (the economy was really bad then). At least we ended up together then - even though we had a few very tough months to make ends meet (including selling some of our furniture).

That’s when I decided to put pen to paper (or at least finger to keyboard) and document our journeys, both in the past and now. I want to help others that are in the same position as we were in before, and are in at the moment.

The end result is Long Distance Relationship Secrets. It is more than just a book. It is a guide to living the life any couple should try and live. The lessons you learn in a long distance relationship is sometimes harder than in a normal relationship, but the rewards are that much greater.

Best of luck,
